Stewardship Season 2015

STEWARDSHIP SEASON 2015 - TREASURE

Our Stewardship Season will run throughout the month of June where we will explore the 'Treasure' that God has given us.

For more information on our Church services related to the Stewardship please look at the Church Calendar section of the website.

What does the Bible say about TREASURE?

Everything we have is given to us by God

This includes our family and friends, our jobs, homes, money and our possessions. Stewardship is about returning to God what is already His.

Stewardship of our resources and even of our lives is about embracing the mystery of God’s love for us shown in the coming of Jesus who died and then rose from the dead, because of the power of God’s love for us.

It is often money, or lack of money, that brings out the most fear in our lives. Stewardship of our money, and in particular our willingness to pledge to God our first-fruits, can be a good sign of just how thankful we are to God and just how much we are willing to trust the same God that has trusted us, through Jesus, with all of his Creation.

In Jesus time, the Jews he was speaking to would have been very familiar with the terms “earthly treasure” and “heavenly treasure.” In fact, the Jews defined storing up treasure in heaven as deeds of mercy and deeds of kindness to people in distress.

Jesus, in Luke 12:33-34 NIV, gives us an idea of treasure in heaven when he says:

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

By giving back to God a fitting proportion of our income and by sharing our possessions with those in need we are showing God our gratitude for all His Grace and Mercy to us
